I. Definition of API 5L X52 Spiral Welded Steel Pipe
API 5L X52 spiral welded steel pipe refers to spiral welded submerged arc welded steel pipe produced in accordance with the API Spec 5L standard established by the American Petroleum Institute (API), with a steel grade of X52.
Core Definition Analysis
API 5L: This is an international standard for oil and natural gas pipelines, specifying requirements for pipeline dimensions,
performance, and quality.
Spiral Welded Steel Pipe: A type of large-diameter steel pipe made by rolling steel strips into a spiral shape and welding them together.
X52: This represents the strength grade of the steel pipe. The “52” indicates that the minimum yield strength of the steel pipe is 52,000 psi (approximately 360 MPa), meaning this steel pipe can withstand high pressure.
In simple terms, API 5L X52 spiral welded steel pipe is a type of spiral welded pipe produced in strict accordance with international petroleum standards and capable of withstanding high pressures.
II. Spiral Welded Steel Pipe Production Process Flow
(1) Raw Material Preparation
Select qualified steel plates or steel strips (thickness and width according to design requirements).
Inspect material certificates and surface quality.
(2) Uncoiling and Straightening
Uncoil the steel strip coils and use a straightening machine to eliminate curling and stress, ensuring a flat surface.
(3) Forming and Rolling into Tubes
Roll the steel strip into a circular tube shape along the spiral direction.
Adjust the rolling machine parameters according to the tube diameter and wall thickness.
(4) Spiral Welding
Complete the weld using automatic spiral arc welding or submerged arc welding.
Control the welding speed, welding current, and weld shape.
(5) Weld heat treatment or straightening
Straightening is performed after welding to ensure the straightness of the pipe.
Heat treatment is performed on high-strength pipes or pipes with special requirements to improve weld performance.
(6) Pipe end processing
Cut to the designed length, and process the end bevel or flange.
Inspect the flatness and dimensional tolerances of the ends.
(7) Surface treatment
Remove scale and weld slag, which can be done by sandblasting or applying anti-corrosion paint.
Corrosion-resistant coatings can be applied according to the application, such as FBE, 3PE, or epoxy coatings.
(8) Dimension and Quality Inspection
Measure outer diameter, wall thickness, and length.
Weld inspection: ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and hydrostatic testing (Hydrotest).
(9) Packaging and Storage
Clean the pipe surface and bundle according to specifications.
Avoid damaging the corrosion-resistant coating during transportation and storage.
